We are back in school with ALOT to be accomplished over the next several weeks. Hopefully, everyone is rested after the Thanksgiving break and is ready to go, go, go!
The first Blood Drive of the school year will be held Tuesday, December 10 in the high school auditorium. Our students are amazing when it comes to giving blood - we have regularly met our goal and it is because of their generous nature. Because SAISD hosts 2 drives per school year, the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center donates $200 to our Project Graduation. Additionally, seniors who give blood at both drives during their senior year will be honored at their graduation ceremony with a red blood donor cord. As you can see, in addition to saving lives, lots of blessings and good things come from this one event!
Senior portraits are scheduled for Wednesday, December 11. A Lifetouch photographer will come prepared to take both "cap and gown" and "drape or tux" pictures of our seniors. Proofs will come back shortly after we return from Christmas break.
Lifetouch will also be taking retakes of students and teachers/staff who were unable to have their picture made earlier this fall. The retakes will be taken first, with senior portraits to follow on the high school campus. The elementary campus will have their own Lifetouch photographer on campus for their retakes.
Student pictures, of course, remind me of the Yearbook! Yearbooks for the 2013-2014 school year are still on sale for $35 - they will remain at this price until the first week after we return from Christmas break (at which time they will move up to their regular price of $45 each). These books would make a perfect Christmas present for a child or grandchild - they are full of not just our student photos but also snapshots of most SAISD events. We also try to include many general "snaps," hoping to capture all of our children in lots of different ways. If you would like to purchase a yearbook, call or come by the high school.
Yearbook ads are also on sale. The more ads we sell, the better the chances are that we can keep our yearbooks at a reasonable price to our students. Full page ads give you the best "bang for your buck" at $200 each. Half-page ads are $150, quarter-page ads are $100 and one-eighth of a page goes for $50. Please consider putting an ad in - you can advertise your business or give honor to your favorite student!
Also next week, students in grades 6 - 8 will be attending academic UIL competition on Tuesday the 10th and Thursday the 12th. Good Luck in all of your events!
Next week appears to be "the week" when it comes to activities - High School band members will be attending All-Region band competition on Friday December 13; Middle School band members will be competing on Saturday the 14th. Both competitions are in Winona - Good Luck, band members!
Also in band news, the annual Christmas Concert will be held in the high school gymnasium at 7:00 PM Thursday, December 19. Prior to that, starting at 5:30, the Band Boosters will be hosting a Chili Dinner across the street at the high school cafeteria. A good steaming bowl of chili will cost you $5, with proceeds going to benefit the band program. See any band member for pre-sell tickets and support your local band!
