Halloween and "Trunk or Treat" has come and gone. Happily, the poor weather conditions didn't stop the huge turnout for the treats handed out by merchants and the fun activities provided by high school student organizations. Thanks to everyone who participated and provided this safe and fun activity for the community's Trick-or-Treaters! The student organizations represented in this effort included: FCCLA, FFA, Interact Club, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Key Club, PALs, and Student Council.
The final football game of the regular season is this Friday at Wolfpack Stadium against Cushing. It is also the night at which seniors will be recognized, so plan on attending to honor our seniors and enjoy some East Texas football. And if "Senior Night" and football aren't enough to draw you out, come see the Mini-Elites - they will be performing at halftime this Friday. Activities honoring our Seniors begin at 6:30, with kickoff at 7:30.
Because of the lightening delays and rainy evening, the band was unable to march last Friday night and the "Bandsman of the Week" award went unannounced. Last week's award went to Ryan Russell, an eighth grade tuba player. You can find his picture and related write-up elsewhere in the Tribune. Congratulations, Ryan, and keep up the good work!
Lifetouch will be on both campuses Tuesday, November 12, to take student, faculty, administrator and staff pictures. These are the photos that will appear in the yearbook and are available for purchase. Students will bring home picture order forms this Friday, November 8 - if you want to order pictures, ask your student for the order form! Fill out the required information, choose the picture package you wish to purchase and enclose a check or cash in the envelope. If you are paying with cash, please make every effort to enclose the correct change - the photographers do not carry cash and it is difficult to make change as pictures are being made. Please note that the senior portraits will be made in December at a separate photo session.
The first of what is planned to be an annual event for the Yearbook program is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, November 13. A "Yearbook Signing" party will be held in the auditorium during the last 3 periods of the school day, giving students the opportunity to sign the yearbooks of their fellow students and have their books signed in return. Along with "book signing," there will also be pizza, cold drinks, and a movie. The students' "ticket" into the party is a purchased yearbook, as follows:
• A 2012-2013 yearbook purchased during the previous school year
• Any "prior year" yearbook purchased this week for the reduced price of $25
• A 2013-2014 yearbook purchased this week for the reduced price of $30
Price reductions are good only for this week and up to Monday November 11 at lunch. If you or your student is interested in purchasing any yearbook, now is the time to do so - you get a price reduction on the book AND a party!! See any yearbook staff member for details or come to my classroom, room 314, to make a purchase before noon on Monday.
Students and teachers at the Elementary School are excited to have new computers in their classrooms for testing, research and lessons. In all, forty-three new computers have been installed throughout the school, replacing the old student computers. Along with iPads, laptops, Promethean smart boards and other digital devices, these computers will enable students and teachers to stay on the cutting edge with educational technology in the classroom!
Also in technology-related news, both the Elementary and High School websites are now up and running. You can go to school websites from the main district site (www.saisd.us) or go directly to the individual campus using either www.es.saisd.us (elementary campus) or www.hs.saisd.us (high school campus). Catch the latest news, schedules, pictures and more at our new school websites!
There will be a 6th grade parent meeting today, Thursday November 7, at 5:00 PM in the High School auditorium. Important changes in our instruction and expectations for the 6th grade class will be discussed - all parents are encouraged to attend if possible.
There will be a Middle School GT/Pre-AP parent meeting on Friday, November 8, at 4:30 PM in the High School library. This meeting is to discuss the Pre-AP projects for the second quarter of the school year. There are some very ambitious projects planned which will culminate in a GT Showcase on December 20.
