Last week, I reported on Jenny Nguyen's award as "Bandsman of the Week." Due to (my) operator error, I reported her grade incorrectly. Jenny is a sophomore clarinet player; she is also a member of the Elites dance team. Sorry, Jenny - I'll be more careful next time around!
This week's "Bandsman of the Week" is Christian Tapia, a 7th grade tuba player. What a great job you are doing, Christian, toting that big instrument around! Christian is also a member of our winning Junior High football team! Congratulations and keep up the good work!
Halloween is here!! Trunk or Treat, the traditional gathering of San Augustine merchants who want to participate in "treating" our children with candy and other goodies, will be hosted in the SAHS front parking lot for the second year in a row. Last year's event was deemed a huge success and we are looking forward to an even better event this afternoon. The number of activities and booths provided by SAHS student organizations will expand this year to include a "Cookie Walk" and a Bean Bag Toss. All the festivities are free to the children of San Augustine in a safe and secure environment. We look forward to seeing all our little "witches and goblins" and their parents this afternoon at 3:30. Merchants are free to start their setup at 3:00. Trunk or Treat is co-sponsored by the San Augustine County Chamber of Commerce and San Augustine ISD.
And after Trunk or Treat, stick around for the last Junior High football game of the season. These fellows have 6 wins and only 1 loss under their belts and they meet Alto in Wolf Stadium this afternoon at 5:00. Good Luck bringing home another win!
The varsity Wolfpack squad travels to Alto this Friday for a game start of 7:30. We had a tough time with West Sabine last week, but look forward to besting the Alto Yellow Jackets on their home turf - come out and support the Wolves!
Lifetouch will be on both campuses Tuesday, November 12, to take student, faculty, administrator and staff pictures. These are the photos that will appear in the yearbook and are available for purchase. Students will soon be bringing home picture order forms - if you want to order pictures, ask your student for the order form! Fill out the required information, choose the picture package you wish to purchase and enclose a check or cash in the envelope. If you are paying with cash, please make every effort to enclose the correct change - the photographers do not carry cash and it is difficult to make change as pictures are being made. Please note that the senior portraits will be made in December at a separate photo session.
FFA students are busy with their major fall fund raiser - selling fruit and various types of meat. Buy something today and help support our FFA program! If you don't know who the FFA students are, contact the school - they'll get you to the right person for your order.
Ms. Sharon Cartwright, Counselor, wants to remind Seniors that the SAT will be given this Saturday, November 2nd. She also has the following activities coming up:
• November 5 - ASVAB test in the SAHS auditorium
• November 7 - Panola College recruiting visit during 3rd period
• November 13 - Angelina College recruiting visit during 4th period
• December 1 - Priority deadline for admission and scholarships to many major universities such as the University of Texas and Texas A&M
November's list of scholarship is available in the counselor's office. Also available is information about College Preview Days that are fast approaching.
Several students will be attending a UIL Practice Meet this Saturday in Center. This is an opportunity for our students to test their skills and knowledge in preparation for the "real deal" - the District Academic UIL event, scheduled for Wednesday, March 26, in West Sabine. Our students are some of the hardest workers you can find - they think nothing of going to school all week, being out late for a football game on Friday and getting up early for UIL practice. Good luck with all the events and wear those medals to school next week! Let everyone know that we win in academics as well as athletics!!
Next week, we have Middle School and High School students going to the Texas Renaissance Festival. These students will get a chance to see in person the renaissance period that they study in school. Middle School students will attend Tuesday, November 5 and the high school goes Wednesday, November 6.
Remember - this weekend the time changes - we will "fall back" an hour, gaining an extra hour of sleep on Saturday night! Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour Saturday evening.
